Amber, Brown, & Dark Ales
Amber and Brown ales are generally malt forward, meaning the aromas are more derived from the grains than the hop profile. Colour shades - amber to brown, vary by adding specialty malts to the grain mix, such as caramel and dark roasted malts which give the brew a toasted nut and toasted bread aroma. North American examples generally show a bit more hop flavour (citrus, stone fruit, and pine). - Andrew Paulsen
