Tequila and Mezcal

The popularity of tequila and mezcal is fueling the explosion of higher-quality spirits from big brands and small artisanal destilería. Look for vegetal and floral notes, and smoky and saline aromas in mezcal. If the label says tequila (only) it’s mixto (agave plus corn spirit). If it’s made with 100 per cent tequiliana weber azul (blue agave) it says so on the label. There are great buys in both categories. - Mary Bailey
